BE CONSIDERATE
BE CONSIDERATE
Perhaps nothing is a better marker for maturity and emotional intelligence than empathy. The ability to feel the pain of another without wearing their shoes to know where it pinches is one of the biggest markers of emotional intelligence. But it goes beyond that.
It doesn't have to pain. It can be the ability to be tolerant or the willingness to view things from another's perspective. It can even be the art of not jumping to conclusions before knowing the whole story or avoiding the tendency to judge people, especially when you don't really know them and have no idea where they've been or the tragedies they've had to endure.
If I can summarize all I've been saying in two words, it would be "Be Considerate".
Being considerate also means you care genuinely for others, always looking for ways to attend to their needs. What kind of place would the world be if we begin to pay attention to the needs of others? What would happen when you start taking into account the impact your decisions will have on others?
But being considerate also means you avoid encroaching into a person's private space or doing things that would inconvenience them. To be considerate is to be observant, conscious, caring and thoughtful.
Now this talk of being considerate applies to even the most basic things like needing to use a friend's charger to charge your phone. Tell me, how considerate are you if you unplug a person's phone at 2% to borrow their charger to charge your phone that's at 25%? Even if your phone is at 0%, you are not being considerate when you unplug another person's phone to power yours when it's obvious they also need it at that point in time too. If its really urgent, why not seek the person's permission first?
No matter how close you are to a person, being inconsiderate is always a turn off.
A huge part of being human is learning to treat others with respect and being considerate. Learn to be considerate.
