LIFE: FAIR OR UNFAIR?
LIFE: FAIR OR UNFAIR?
At some point in your life, you've probably questioned the sense of justice of this thing we call life. Like many mortals before you, you've at some point uttered the common expression "life is unfair". Maybe not with the same exact words, but expressions like "why me" fall into that category.
Is life fair? Is it unfair? Well, I think the answer lies in the middle.
Now you are probably thinking "what is she saying? Something is either fair or unfair. What's the middle ground?"
Think about it this way. Life is more like a referee. Not for or against you. This means what you make of your own life depends entirely on you. And unlike some unscrupulous football referees having a dense amount of bias running their veins, life is entirely neutral.
But now you are thinking "How about those born with a silver spoon? I wasn't even born with a wooden spoon! How can you say life isn't fair to some and unfair to others?"
Well, it is true that some people are born lucky than others but it is also true that you can also create your own luck. So the fact that you are not born lucky doesn't mean you can't create your own luck. The fact that you weren't born with a silver spoon doesn't mean you will die without gold plagues carrying your name.
Haven't you seen people born with silver spoons who went on to mess up their life? How about those born with no spoons who went on to accumulate great wealth? You see, life gives everybody a level playing ground even though it doesn't appear that way.
There was a question you wanted to ask me. Yes you. You wanted to ask me what I meant by "creating your own luck". I know you had that question in mind. Well, by creating your own luck I meant "grit". Which is another word for " hard work". You see, hard work opens doors that appear sealed and levels mountains that look insurmountable.
Weeks ago, I heard a friend say "hard work is the wealth of a poor man". With good planning, persistence and hard work you can build the future you admire today.
But one of the reasons I wrote this article is the power of perception. You know the popular phrase from the Bible "As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he"? If you think life is unfair, you will mistake your adversity for life being unfair, even though everyone faces adversity when they attempt to do something worthwhile. But because you think life is unfair, you will quit doing the things that would bring you closer to your dreams. So I wrote this article to help you shift your perception.
But here's another perspective to think about when you are tempted to ask whether life is fair or not. Do you actually deserve the air you breathe? How about the health you enjoy? Wait a sec, how about the life you have?
Life gives everybody a level playing ground. It isn't against you so rise up and pursue your destiny.
