Be Accountable

Be Accountable

You can get better by learning to be accountable. You know, a lot of times we feel certain things don't matter but they do.

Accountability can be found in even the smallest things like returning the money left from a purchase where you bought things for less than the money you were given.

I grew up tending my parents business with my siblings. I literally spent most of my earlier years at those shops. At the end of each month, we always had to balance our accounts. Of course there were days we had profits and days we recorded losses (and got scolded for not being cautious enough)

That experience taught me important lessons on accountability. My parents held us to high standards of accountability no matter the amount involved.I'm holding you to those same standards of accountability.

I don't know why I feel impressed to talk about being accountable. After all, It's not bad if that's all you read here.

You see, being accountable isn't all about money. Accountability is key for responsible living. The good thing about accountability is that, when shown in one area, it is likely to get consolidated in others.

Growing up, I dare not go out without informing anyone where I was headed and how long I was going to be out for. And, I mustn't exceed the timeframe. Going against this code was sure to attract some form of punishment. That code has shaped the way I live and the values I espouse.

And since values are like the proverbial birds of a feather that flock together, accountability attracts other values. As matter of fact, the more you consolidate your values, the more they become self reinforcing.

Another thing that comes with being accountable is that you willing take on responsibility. This is because you believe you are accountable to certain people and then you wouldn't want to fail them

Sincerely, sometimes  reading isn't easy especially when you are so tired and exhausted. There were days back then in university that I was so tired and then I felt like not reading even when I had test or exam ahead but there was always something that pushed me to the library or class to read. It was just that I couldn't afford to fail my parents. I knew I was accountable to them so having a bad C.G.P.A wasn't even something I could consider.

I had to force myself a lot of times to study hard, had to deny myself of sleep and had let go a lot of distractions on campus because I knew I was always going to report to them. Being accountable makes you responsible.
