Not a Single Piece was Left

Not a Single Piece was Left

I can write a hundred books on God's faithfulness, loving kindness, and mercies and still not exhaust the depth of his love towards me and my family. Nine years ago, about a time like this, God proved himself strong in our affairs.
The 2011 general elections had just ended and post election violence ensued. On the 17th of April, a very bad crisis broke out in Zaria, Kaduna and escalated as fast as it began.

We were home on that fateful day when a gang of individuals armed with violent weapons began to make attempts to break into our house. That night, I remember the noise of violent attempts to break into our home. When their attempt to break into the house failed, they broke bottles and exerted a lot of damage at the shops (we had two shops in front of the house).

Shortly after, my mum had us exit the house through the fence to another street, leaving my dad alone in the house, who was trying to secure his house and properties.. You know how men do..

After exiting the house through the fence, we landed in another street, where we stayed for the night but couldn't sleep. We didn't know what happened to dad. We called his lines over and again but he didn't return the calls. Hoped that nothing happened to him.

The following morning, we were so happy to see dad. Not long, sympathisers started coming forward, commiserating with us on the loss of our properties the night before.

But the worst was yet to come.

While we were still trying to deal with the loss of the prior night, we heard another gang of assailants, shouting at the top of their voices. You could tell that these ones were ready to eliminate anything they crossed paths with.

In pure reflex, we took to our hills and headed towards the campus and stayed by the gate. Since they couldn't gain entrance into the campus, they resorted to mass destruction of properties in the area, razing down houses, one of which was our home. Not a single piece was left. Everything was burnt down. Left with nothing, we became IDPs for several weeks.

Today, when I look back on that moment of despair, despondency and deep hurt I'm filled with gratitude for how God recompensed our losses and restored us. Today, we are living happily and well. Praise God!
God has been super faithful. Ever with us. Never leaving us.
